In A Recreation Rut? Here's Four Ideas to Stop Spinning Your Wheels

About Me
Really Enjoying Your Time Away From Work

A few years after I retired, I realized that I was spending more and more time laying around the house and less time doing the things that I loved. I started thinking carefully about what I could do to change things, and it was very apparent to me that I needed to focus more of my energy on getting outdoors and enjoying my free time. I started learning more about recreation and sports, and within a few weeks, I found myself trying new adventures with friends like kayaking and bungee jumping. This blog is here to help other people to learn how to enjoy their time away from work to make the most of their lives.

If doing the same old activities during your leisure time is making you feel as if you're spinning your wheels in leisure time rut, that's a sign that it's time to shake things up. Fortunately, there are many leisure activities that won't leave you feeling bored and dissatisfied. Following are four of them.

Pistol Shooting

Many people think of pistol shooting as something that people learn how to do in order to better protect themselves and their loved ones from criminals. Although getting pistol training certainly has its benefits as far as personal safety goes, target shooting is also a fun sport that can help you break out of your recreational doldrums. There's also a sense of accomplishment that comes from getting better and better with increased practice at your local shooting range.

Mountain Bike Riding

Another great way to have fun during your leisure time is to take up mountain bike riding. Not only will you get a great lower body workout by going mountain bike riding, you'll also get to see some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Mountain biking meccas include visually stunning places such as Moab, Utah, and Oakridge, Oregon. As an added benefit, mountain biking can be a very social sport for those who prefer to enjoy their leisure time in the company of others. On the other hand, it's also something that can be enjoyed on a solitary basis if you're so inclined.

Whitewater Rafting

It's doubtful that anyone can honestly say that they've been bored while in the process of rafting downa wild mountain river. Like mountain biking, whitewater rafting provides an excellent way for participants to get a firsthand look at some of the country's wilderness areas that are inaccessible by road. Whitewater rafting is an activity that can be enjoyed in any part of the country that has mountainous terrain -- whitewater conditions are found when rivers are rushing downhill from their source in the mountains.

Rowing

Rowing is an excellent option for those looking for a pastime that offers opportunities for reflection and introspection -- after all, it's difficult to indulge in these while whitewater rafting or mountain biking. All you need is a small canoe, an old fashioned wooden rowboat, or a kayak designed to be used on relatively still water. Another advantage of rowing is that it provides you with a low impact, full-body workout to keep you fit.
